The Tales of the Beedle the Bard – Books Review

Posted by Saipradeep on December 18, 2008

For the hype it created in the hearts of Harry Potter fanatics, “The Tales of the Beedle the Bard” is an absolute disappointment. It is no way in standard to any of the Harry Potter books and is definitely far from matching any of children’s story book written by Enid Blyton. I am sure was utterly shocked after they made a winning bid of £1.95 million ($3.98 million) for the one of the seven limited edition of this book that was hand written and illustrated by J K Rowling and auctioned in late 2007. Thank fully that money was used for a good cause and given to The Children’s Voice Charity campaign run by the author herself along with MEP Emma Nicholson. Read the rest of this entry »

Simple Secret for a Successful Marriage!!

Posted by Saipradeep on December 10, 2008

The following is a story that I recieved as a forward. It is an amazing story expecially for the married lot!!!

Monica married Hitesh the other day. At the end of the wedding party, Monica's mother gave her a newly opened bank saving passbook, with Rs.1000 deposit amount.

Mother said, 'Monica, take this passbook. Keep it as a record of your marriage life. When something happy and memorable happens in your new life, put some money in. Write down what it's about next to the line. The more memorable the event is, the more money you can put in. I've done the first one for you today. Do the others with Hitesh. When you look back after years, you can know how much happiness you've had.”

Monica shared this with Hitesh when getting home. They both thought it was a great idea and were anxious to know when the second deposit can be made.   Read the rest of this entry »

Townbus – Hotel Review

Posted by Saipradeep on December 9, 2008

Townbus, a hotel located in Kodambakkam Highroad, Chennai, known for its exterior looks and interior decor. This hotel is designed to look like a Transport Coporation Bus not just from the outside, but also from the inside. The seats inside along with the hand holders from the ceiling are a accurate replica of models available in the latest MTC buses. They also have cane chairs hanging from the ceiling in one part of the A/C retaurant which is in the first floor. These chairs are slightly uncomfortable when you are dining, nevertheless would serve as a new experience. The people who serve food are also dressed to look like conductors in khaki uniform.

On quality and quantity of food, well, the latter was kind of ok, however the former was not upto my expectation. They serve a variety of dishes from South Indian to North Indian They also serve Indian Chinese however it is definately not their strong point. They also serve icecreams and juices. My wife had ordered a Tomato soup, something she has to have at all restaurants we visit. She found that it was quite better when compared to few other places. We followed it up with French fries and I think that is were things started going wrong.  Read the rest of this entry »

India plaza has yet again failed to delier my order on time. I have ordered books with them twice now and both times they have delayed shipping without as much citing any reason.

My first order was JK Rowling’s “Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows” which was to be delivered on the day of the book release. Instead I recieved the book two days late with no apparent reason. When I raised the question to their customer service, all that they could muster up was an apology and a silly reason that the books were short of stock.

My second order was on 4th December 2008 and I ordered JK Rowling’s “The Tale of the Beedle the Bard” along with which I am supposed to get “Fantastic Beasts and where to Find them” by the same author as a freebie. I also had order Louise Hay’s “Power within you” along with this. Again, they have goofed up with the delivery. Beedle the Bard was supposed to be shipped on the 5th of December, but they had not done the same until yesterday. This shipping to is only partial as the Fantastic Beasts book is out of stock and is expected to arrive only after the 12th of Dec. BTW, this shipping too only happend after my repeated phone calls and emails to their customer service and after me escalating the issue to all available email ids of India Plaza.

One thing I donot understand is how they can promise the customer something on their website, just so as to lure them into ordering the book and when it is closing time, change the shipping date and state the book is out of stock. To top it all, they donot even have the courtesy to call up or mail a delay notification by their own. The customer has to call them or mail them to reason out the delay.

The India Plaza team is absolutly clueless about Customer service and I just wonder if I am the only person who is facing this issue.

PS: “Power within you” just arrived at my home

Mothers or Monsters???

Posted by Saipradeep on December 5, 2008

Yesterday, I was reading “The Sun” and I came across a few articles that were very disturbing in nature. They seem to shatter the foundation of a belief that has been in existence from the creation of this World. A belief that is taken as the greatness of life. I am talking about Motherhood and the inherent love it brings to the child.

Most of us believe that Mothers are created in this earth because God cannot be with everyone all the time. Most of us believe that Motherhood is the purest form of love that one can receive. But the articles I read yesterday had a fling at the pillars of these beliefs. Made me wonder as to what has happened to this world and where has this so called compassion and love for people gone.

The articles are stories that horrific to the core. So horrific that I would like to clearly warn you. If you are faint hearted, please do not go ahead. These articles are stories on the lives of two small children, Shannon and Baby P, children from different families and different ages, but with similar stories of life. A life that was truly cursed.  Read the rest of this entry »

Ordeal in Ordering The Tales of the Beedle the Bard

Posted by Saipradeep on December 5, 2008

Well… I am yet to recieve the delievery from India Plaza. It looks like the books I ordered are not going to be delivered on time. The India Plaza team did not even have the courtesy to inform me about the delay until I called them and also mailed them.

Not the first time these guys are goofing with my order. They did the same thing with the “Deathly Hallows“, which was supposed to be delievered to me on the day of release. Instead they delivered it two days late and again, I had to keep calling and following up with them.

To top it all, the customer service rep who had replied to my mail, had just said that the book would be delayed till 12th and that they are sorry about that. No reason for delay was given. She also had the atrocity to send me a link where I can rate her customer service skill. By the way, that link too did not work, just like India Plaza’s delivery system.

I have ordered this book online and I guess I will recieve it in a day or two. This would be my first review of a book 🙂

India Plaza had offered Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as a freebee along with the Beedle of the Bard. So I guess it would be two reviews soon.

Until then… So Long…

Corruption killed the Mumbai Heroes

Posted by Saipradeep on December 3, 2008

Corruption according to Merriam Webster Dictionary is termed as an “impairment of integrity, virtue or moral principle; depravity, decay, and/or an inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful means, a departure from the original or from what is pure or correct, and/or an agency or influence that corrupts.”

Wikipedia quotes that Corruption, when applied as a technical term, is a general concept describing any organized, interdependent system in which part of the system is either not performing duties it was originally intended to, or performing them in an improper way, to the detriment of the system’s original purpose. Its terminological usage possesses connotations of evil, malignance, sickness, and loss of innocence or purity.

Evil, Malign, Sickness and Loss of innocence or purity… what an apt way to put what Corruption stands for. Read the rest of this entry »

Say “No” to Political Gimmicks

Posted by Saipradeep on December 2, 2008

Politics and gimmicks have become almost synonymous with the present day politicians. So great is their art at this, that many a times, one can see trained magicians go bonkers in front of them. They are so perfect in their game that we, the public see but do not recognize or register any of their antics. They are bitter enemies trying to fling all possible accusation against each other on one day and the next day, they become best of pals praising each other for the sacrifices they have made for their country or state. We, the public never recognize these antics and tend to have a short term memory loss. Read the rest of this entry »
